About 9 weeks ago my sister and I decided to run a half marathon. We signed up for the Snow Canyon Half marathon. A few weeks into training I hurt my knee, let it heal, continued training... then 3 weeks before the race I hurt my other one really bad ;/ so I rested it up, had Danny give me a blessing and decided to try!
Us before the race began! We were so pumped :) We had to wait in the longest line ever to go the bathroom. When the count down began we were still in our sweats (they gave us bags to put our extra clothes in, to put in a trailer and they would drive them down to the finish line). So the race began and we were trying to rip our clothes off and run at the same time. The night before we bought water bottle carriers that go on our hips.. about 3 min into running mine ripped and my water bottle went flying behind me... there were literally hundreds of ppl behind us, they were all stumbling over it and i was fumbling around to grab it.. "sorry, whoops, excuse me, sorry..." ha guess we shoulda tried them out before the race day :)
It was such a beautiful trail :)
By about mile 3 my knee was killing me, I tried to push thru the pain and not let it effect me, but by mile 6 I told Tia to go ahead and that I would catch up. Right before the mile 11 marker there were porta-potties and a drink station. I feeling like I was about to die, so I went into the bathroom did my business and decided to push it hard and meet up to Tia. So in my ear phones went and I took off... I was pushing so hard. Several min later I started to realize not many runners were around me. I thought "I am either way fast, or way slow." A few min later a white van pulled up to me... My initial thought was, I'M GETTING KIDNAPPED. ha But the man stuck his head out the window and said, "you made a wrong turn your off course," so I hoped in and he drove me back to the station were I made the wrong turn 1 MILE THE WRONG WAY... I'll tell you what, after running 11 miles, that extra mile was sooo depressing.
I FINALLY FINISHED!!!! all 14.1 miles ;)
Danny and the boys were there waiting at the finish line for me, with flowers and all!SOOOOOOOOO proud of us! We were both in pretty bad shape the rest of the day :/ but after we could function again ha, we were really proud of our accomplishment! I'd like to do another one, one day.... not any time soon! But one day ;)
